New Dentist Task Force
The mission of the New Dentist Task Force is to identify and create specific programs to attract, retain and involve new practicing (10 years or less) dentists to MDS. Those new to the profession can infuse younger energy, enthusiasm and ideas into organized dentistry.
The Dental Foundation of Oregon
Organized dentistry and the individual dentist have always been at the forefront of community service and volunteerism. Members of the dental profession are well aware of the tremendous need for our services, not only from our patients but also the need to the poor and underserved. My colleagues have all, in many different ways, contributed to the betterment of the health of the community with donations of time, financially or both.
My hope is that as part of the Oregon Dental Association, the members of the Multnomah Dental Society will be able to lead the way and find it in their hearts, the will to support Dentistry’s Charitable organization. The Dental Foundation of Oregon receives more requests for funds each year than they have dollars to allocate.

Annual House of Delegates
Every year the House of Delegates convene to conduct business, including elections and consideration of reports pertinent to association affairs.
Multnomah Dental Society needs 21 representatives present. To volunteer or for more information please call MDS at 503-513-5010
About the House The powers of voting members of the Oregon Dental Association under Oregon Nonprofit Corporation Law are exercised by a House of Delegates. Delegates are selected by each of ODA's sixteen component dental societies on the basis of one delegate for every 25 (or majority fraction thereof) voting members. Components with fewer than 37 members are entitled to two delegates. For every delegate, each component is entitled to select one alternate delegate to act in the absence of the delegate at any meeting of the House.
The Speaker of the House of Delegates is also a voting member of the House, by virtue of his or her office. The students of the OHSU School of Dentistry are entitled to appoint one voting delegate.
The House meets in September or October of each year. The date, time and location are specified by the Board of Trustees.
Emergency Service Coverage
For Our Members
Do you need someone to cover your emergencies when you are out of town? The MDS offers an Emergency Coverage Service to its members. For just $20 a day Monday-Thursday, and $40 a day Friday-Sunday, including Holidays an MDS colleague can handle your calls while you’re away. Please contact us for coverage.
Have your dues reimbursed. The Multnomah Dental Society sponsors an Emergency Dental Service Program to handle patient emergencies for MDS members when they are unavailable. As a key element of this program, we recruit volunteer doctors who wish to cover weekends and holidays.
Volunteering has its rewards!
- MDS Dues Reimbursement
- Build Your Practice
- Society Fellowship
- $50.00 Emergency Exam Fee in addition to your normal treatment fee.
Volunteers who cover a minimum of 12 days in one calendar year are reimbursed the full portion of their MDS dues for the following year. Volunteer hours are Friday and Saturday 9am to 9pm and Sundays and holidays, noon to 5 pm. Patients pay a $50.00 Emergency Exam Fee in Addition to your normal rates. The dentist is paid directly and immediately in full for the treatment provided. Many calls are received from individuals who do not already have a regular dentist and are looking for a referral. This service provides an opportunity for you to build your practice by bringing in new patients.
To volunteer please contact the Multnomah Dental Society at 503-513-5010.
Additional Information for Volunteer Dentists:
Below is the protocol of how it works…its pretty easy.
Anyone that calls MDS during our office hours will be referred to one of our member dentist Anyone that calls after hours with an emergency is instructed to push a key that gets them in contact with our Physicians Answering Service. The Answering service has a calendar of Dr.’s on call and will interview the caller to:
- Ensure that it is an emergency.
- They agree to pay the $50.00 emergency fee to you.
- They agree to pay for any treatment that you render.
The Answering service will contact you to arrange time for you to see the patient or they will provide you with their phone number.
You will not be contacted directly by the patient.
Sometimes, MDS gets calls from people who do not have a regular dentist and are experiencing an emergency. As long as they agree to the above conditions they will be referred to the Doctor on call for treatment.
