Volunteer
DENTISTS Needed!
Dear Dentists of Multnomah County,
Forty-nine years ago the Assistance League of Portland (ALP) opened a free children’s dental care clinic for low-income students in the Portland school district who didn’t have dental insurance. By the end of February, 2010, ALP will discontinue their fiscal support for the Children’s Dental Center at Creston School.
Members of the Multnomah County Dental Society board have taken up this challenge to keep the Creston Children’s Dental Center operational and have begun the process of establishing a 501 (c) (3) organization named the “Friends of the Creston Children’s Dental Clinic” (FCCDC).
As of March 1, 2010 the clinic will be under the operational management of FCCDC board. Multnomah County Dental Society has given the first $10,000 to the FCCDC for the purposes of preserving the good work the Assistance League started almost 50 years ago.
Key to the reorganization of the clinic operations is the revitalization of a volunteer pool of dentists, hygienists and assistants that was effectively utilized years ago. Initially, the clinic will retain one paid dentist who will work Tuesdays and Thursdays. Volunteer dentists will work on Mondays and Fridays each week. The clinic will be closed on Wednesday. Based on the response of volunteers and their availability to work on any given day will determine whether we need to retain a paid dentist on Tuesdays and Thursdays and whether we reopen on Wednesdays.
Many of you have fond memories of working at Creston in the past, and many of you have not had the opportunity to participate. Now is you chance. The hours of operations at Friends of Creston Children's Dental Clinic (FCCDC) will be 8:30 am-3:30 pm.
Below are the dates we need volunteer dentists as well as Assistants.
Check your schedules and see if you can help us out one day or several of the days. Please reply to the MDS office the days you are interested in volunteering. MDS Phone: 503-513-5010, Fax: 503-513-5009 or e-mail: lora@multnomahdental.org
Please help us keep Creston Children’s Dental Clinic open and operational. You are the external force that will keep this clinic serving the low-income students of the Portland Public School system for the years to come.
Sincerely,
Kurt Ferré, DDS
President, Multnomah Dental Society
Chairman, Friends of Creston Children’s Dental Clinic
